PineyWoods Pediatrics is proud to offer families a new patient tool that allows us to measure your child’s fruit and vegetable intake. It takes just 30 seconds to complete, and it’s nothing more than a simple hand scan. Technology is amazing, and we’re always researching new ways to help keep kids healthy! 
When your child “high fives” the S3 BioPhotonic Scanner, it measures the level of carotenoids in their skin. Carotenoids are pigmented nutrients that give many fruits and vegetables their vibrant colors. All carotenoids are antioxidants, and they’re anti-inflammatory too, meaning these nutrients do wonders for your overall health. Your body will even turn some carotenoids into Vitamin A!
If the scanner detects low carotenoid levels in your child, don’t worry. We can work together to improve levels with a few healthy lifestyle choices. Remember, school-aged kids need foods from all FIVE healthy food groups: vegetables, fruits, grains, dairy and protein. The best diet will include an adequate and balanced intake of each. Be sure to mix up your food choices, too, so your family gets a variety of dense nutrients!

Though we consider it a useful tool to help care for your kid, this hand scan is not covered by insurance. That’s why our office only charges $10 per test.
