Spring break may be over, but the opportunity to break bad habits lasts all year round! The American Heart Association suggests six steps to changing bad habits to good ones, and they’re easy enough for the whole family to follow (with a bit of guidance!).
1. Identify the cues that trigger a bad habit.
2. Disrupt those cues.
3. Replace the bad habit with a new, better one.
4. Keep new behaviors simple to turn it into an automatic response.
5. Focus on the long term to remind yourself why you’re putting forth the effort.
6. Persist. Persist. Persist. Breaking bad habits won’t happen overnight but just keep at it!
